Sold a bunch of stuff last month when I was clearing out my spare room. Listed my old Canon Rebel, nothing special, but it's in good condition, comes with two lenses and the original bag. I looked up what they go for used and $180 seemed fair, maybe even a little low. First message I get is from a guy asking if it's still available. I say yes. He says he's a "content creator" and asks if I'd take $20 for it. Not $120. Twenty dollars. I asked if that was a typo. He said no, and explained that he doesn't have a lot of cash right now but that he has 340 followers on Instagram and would "give me a shoutout" in his next post in exchange for the camera. I looked at his profile. It was mostly blurry photos of coffee cups and one video of him attempting to skateboard. 340 followers, maybe 4 likes per post. I said I appreciated the offer but was going to stick with $180. He came back and said that "exposure has real value" and that his account was "growing fast." I said good luck with that and wished him well. He messaged me two more times over the next three days, each time going up by $5. Last offer was $35 and a promise to "tag me in everything for a month." I didn't respond to that one. Sold the camera the next day to a college student for $165, she seemed genuinely excited, said it was her first real camera. That felt pretty good honestly. The shoutout guy watched my listing the whole time, I could see the views going up. submitted by /u/Silver-Summit [link] [comments]
