Disney’s Hollywood Studios Still Has Entire Sections Blocked Off After New Openings

Wait 5 sec.

Disney World just wrapped up one of the busiest weeks the resort has seen in years.Between the launch of Cool KID SUMMER, the opening of Bluey’s Wild World, the debut of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, new entertainment inside Hollywood Studios, and the return of Soarin’ Across America, it suddenly feels like Disney dropped half a decade’s worth of projects all at once. For fans, it has been exciting. There’s genuinely a lot happening around the parks right now, especially compared to some of the slower stretches Disney World went through over the past couple of years. Entire sections of parks suddenly feel fresh again, crowds are bouncing between newly opened attractions, and Disney finally has some momentum heading into summer. But while everyone has been focused on the new stuff, there’s another reality guests still need to know before heading to Orlando.A LOT is still closed. Some closures are temporary refurbishments. Others are permanent losses that longtime fans still are not happy about. A few areas are sitting behind construction walls with no reopening timeline at all.So if you’re planning a Disney World vacation this summer, here’s the full rundown of what’s still unavailable across the parks and resorts right now.Magic Kingdom Still Has Massive Construction WallsEven after all the excitement happening at the other parks, Magic Kingdom still feels like the center of Disney World’s biggest transformation project. The most obvious change remains Frontierland. The Rivers of America, Liberty Square Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island are all permanently gone as Disney pushes forward with construction on the new Piston Peak expansion. The river has already been drained, demolition work continues around the former island area, and large construction zones now dominate this side of the park.Credit: DisneyFor many guests, this is still one of the most emotional closures Disney has made in years. The area used to provide a slower-paced section of Magic Kingdom where families could escape crowds for a little while. Now, the entire atmosphere feels completely different.Disney plans to replace the area with a new Cars-themed expansion featuring two attractions, but there is still no official opening date yet.Meanwhile, over in Storybook Circus, Pete’s Silly Sideshow remains closed. The meet-and-greet location has been unavailable since January, though guests can still find the characters elsewhere in the land. There’s still no reopening timeline.Credit: Disney FanaticBig Top Souvenirs is also still shut down for major structural repairs. Disney has stripped down large portions of the building, and while the company says the store will reopen later this year, construction remains very visible inside Storybook Circus.Hollywood Studios Is Still Missing Entire LandsHollywood Studios may have opened several new offerings this week, but the park still has some of the most noticeable closures anywhere on Disney property.Animation Courtyard remains partially closed as Disney continues transforming the space into the new Walt Disney Studios area. While some experiences have already soft opened, large sections of the land are still unavailable.Star Wars Launch Bay is still closed.Disney Jr. Play and Dance! remains gone.Credit: DisneyConstruction continues throughout the land as Disney works toward opening The Magic of Disney Animation experience, the Drawn to Wonderland indoor playground, and additional entertainment offerings. The return of the Sorcerer Hat has created a lot of buzz online, but guests walking through the area can still clearly tell this project is unfinished. Then there’s Muppets Courtyard.Muppet*Vision 3D is permanently closed. PizzeRizzo is gone. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano closed last year, and the entire section is now blocked by walls as Disney continues work on the new Monstropolis expansion. This closure still hits longtime Disney fans especially hard because Muppet*Vision was one of the last projects Jim Henson personally worked on before his death.Even though Disney has already opened the new Muppets coaster across the park, many fans still feel like Hollywood Studios lost a major piece of its identity with the closure of the original courtyard.EPCOT Still Has Smaller But Noticeable ClosuresCompared to Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, EPCOT’s closure list is smaller right now, but there are still a few noticeable projects happening around the park.Refreshment Port remains closed as Disney transforms the location into La Poutinerie with sponsorship from Air Canada.Credit: Erica Lauren, Inside the MagicWhile that may not sound like a major issue, EPCOT food locations matter more than almost any other park because guests spend so much time snacking and drinking around World Showcase.Construction has also continued throughout portions of the France Pavilion area near Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, where Disney recently filed additional permits connected to ongoing work. And even though Soarin’ Across America is finally back, EPCOT still feels like a park constantly dealing with construction in some form or another.Animal Kingdom Is Still Missing DinoLand U.S.A.Animal Kingdom’s biggest closure remains impossible to miss.DinoLand U.S.A. is officially gone. The land closed earlier this year as Disney began work on Tropical Americas, the massive new expansion that will eventually bring Encanto and Indiana Jones attractions to the park.Right now, though, the area mostly feels like a giant construction zone.Credit: DisneyWalls dominate huge portions of the park, demolition continues behind the scenes, and guests are still adjusting to the loss of Dinosaur and the original DinoLand atmosphere.Disney has already filed new permits tied to the upcoming Indiana Jones attraction, which at least signals that construction is moving forward quickly.Still, this is going to remain one of the biggest ongoing projects at Walt Disney World for years.Resort Hotels Still Have Major Refurbishments HappeningThe closures are not limited to the parks.Several Disney resort hotels are also dealing with construction projects and refurbishments right now.At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the boat dock refurbishment continues through early June, temporarily affecting transportation options for guests heading toward Magic Kingdom.Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa still has major work happening around the porte cochere area, and Disney says that project will continue into 2027.Credit: DisneyBay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is also undergoing extensive exterior work that could last through late 2027, with guests continuing to see and hear construction during their stays.Over at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, multiple dining refurbishments are happening throughout the year involving The Turf Club locations.Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort also remains closed for refurbishment until later this summer.Meanwhile, both Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club continue seeing pool closures and exterior maintenance projects around the resorts.Disney’s BoardWalk also still feels unfinished right now.The Promenade Fine Art Gallery remains closed as Disney prepares to relocate it somewhere else on property, while Jellyrolls permanently closed at the BoardWalk earlier this year before announcing plans to reopen off Disney property sometime later in 2026.Disney World Feels More Alive Than It Has in YearsEven with all these closures, there’s no question Disney World finally feels busier and more active again. The difference is that this time, Disney is trying to balance massive expansion projects while simultaneously launching new attractions, entertainment offerings, and seasonal events all at once. That creates a strange situation for guests. On one side, there’s more new stuff to do than Disney has offered in a long time. On the other, there are still walls, cranes, drained waterways, missing attractions, and entire lands under reconstruction across nearly every park. For many visitors, that tradeoff will absolutely be worth it.But if you’re planning a Disney World trip soon, knowing what’s still closed could honestly matter just as much as knowing what just opened. The post Disney’s Hollywood Studios Still Has Entire Sections Blocked Off After New Openings appeared first on Inside the Magic.
