I posted my old hybrid bike last week. Nothing special, a few years old, some scratches, but the gears work fine and the tires are good. I looked up comparable listings and $150 seemed fair, maybe even a little low for the condition. First message was a guy asking if I'd be open to a "creative arrangement." I said depends, what are you thinking. He explained that he runs a YouTube channel about urban cycling and if I gave him the bike he would feature it in a video, give me a shoutout, and link my "business" in the description. I told him I don't have a business, I'm just a person selling a bike. He said the exposure would still be valuable and that he could "get me in front of thousands of viewers." I looked at his channel. Forty one subscribers. The last video had 12 views and had been up for eight months. I said I appreciated the offer but was looking for cash. He came back and said he could do $20 and the shoutout. I said no. He said $35 and he'd mention me twice in the video. I said the price was $150 and I wasn't going lower. He said that was "unrealistic for a used bike" and that I should "consider the marketing value" of being in his content. I said I'd thought about it and I was good. He messaged me again two days later asking if I'd reconsidered. I hadn't. I sold the bike the next morning to a guy who showed up with exact change, looked it over for about three minutes, said "yeah this is fine" and rode away on it. The whole interaction took less than ten minutes. I think about the 41 subscriber guy sometimes. I hope he found a bike. submitted by /u/Reedknifeeeq [link] [comments]
