Excited, scared, and unsure. Never the less, it's here! Just last week, I talked about my new iOS app that was set to come out soon. Well, that's right now! Somehow I apparently ended up setting it to launch at midnight (or maybe 11 PM) my time, which really blows for me. I'm exhausted and hopeful that I can get by with some casual checking here and there without anything going catastrophically wrong. Excited to wake up this morning. Fingers crossed! Anyways, it's out! Please feel free to check out this little application and let me know your thoughts. Users have long requested better filtering and stuff with FreeGameFindings, so this app is meant to be a solution to that, while also being something of a "hub" for FGF-related things I do. Using this application you can enable push notifications for all posts (I aim to make this customizable in the future), enable filters for things you don't want to see anymore, search for specific items, view FGF YouTube videos, get linked out to other FGF things, etc. The goal of this app is to benefit subreddit users and get FGF to grow even more, all while circling people back into the subreddit. Open posts from within the application and be brought directly to the Reddit posts associated to them. The hope is that this can be a perfect companion to the subreddit. Enjoy FGF! I built this app with the intention of bringing it to both Android and iOS platforms, but Google struck a bit. Same thing goes to iOS users in Europe. It's a privacy thing I'm trying to figure out. As of this current release, the application is what I would consider a "beta". The reasoning behind that choice is that to safely navigate the privacy concerns, I need to spent some cash on some business-y things. I don't think that would be wise without a real direction to go, so I'm going to take it slow and steady like this. This application was built with the need for me to maintain some backend stuff. This means that there is a cost to consider. I don't think this is going to be a high cost, but a cost none-the-less. This means the application has ads. A Google Ad on the homepage and a section to link out to affiliate links for Humble Bundle and GreenManGaming. Had to get creative for this though. Didn't want to risk putting ad(s) in the list of posts since they're from Reddit (properly credited in doing so btw), so I just did the homepage and made the homepage the default entry point. Pretty sure that works without breaking any rules or anything. Please consider partaking in those affiliate links, and in checking out whatever might interest you from the Google ad to help ensure this thing can stay afloat. If it isn't going to work out, I will need to pivot in some way. Final thing to mention is that this application was built with React Native (using Expo). I built this on a MacBook I purchased to embark on larger coding projects like this. Using that, I was able to access the iOS emulator, and did the development for/with that. I personally don't have any other apple devices, so testing on physical hardware required some slight input from friends. I think everything should be fine in that regard, but let me know if you find some both-job of mine and I'll try to get it resolved! I'm not a great programmer, but I'm hopeful I got things mostly right. Here's hoping all goes well and this can be a useful tool for the subreddit. Was fun to learn how to do this. I mean, I hated it, but I'm glad I did it. Hope you like it! submitted by /u/StOoPiD_U [link] [comments]
