Marcos Senesi is expected to become one of Tottenham’s first summer signings, and there appears to be one shirt number that makes far more sense than any other. With Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham Hotspur looking increasingly uncertain, Spurs have wasted little time in lining up a replacement. The North London club have already secured a deal for Marcos Senesi on a free transfer following the expiry of his Bournemouth contract. Not many would have expected the Argentine to choose a side that finished just two points above the relegation zone, particularly when clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool were also monitoring his situation. However, Senesi had reportedly made up his mind towards the end of the season that Tottenham would be his preferred destination. There was one major condition attached to that decision, though, and that was his move would only go ahead if Spurs preserved their Premier League status.Roberto De Zerbi’s side did exactly that on the final day, and now, supporters await his official unveiling.Photo by Charlotte Wilson/Offside/Offside via Getty ImagesWhich Tottenham shirt numbers are available for Marcos Senesi?Ahead of an official announcement, which is expected once the transfer window opens on June 15, many Tottenham supporters have been wondering which squad number Senesi could inherit. The Argentine has worn six different numbers during his professional career. His most recent choice was the No.5 shirt at Bournemouth after switching from No.25 two seasons ago. Conveniently for Senesi, that number has been vacant at Tottenham since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departed in 2024.Should he decide to change things up again, there are several alternatives. Across his career, Senesi has also worn Nos. 34, 3, 6, 4 and 25. Of those options, only Nos.4 and 25 are currently unavailable, with Kevin Danso and Kota Takai occupying those shirts. No.34 remains vacant, while Nos.3 and 6 could potentially become available if Radu Dragusin and Joao Palhinha leave the club this summer as expected. There is also the No.2 shirt, which is currently unoccupied and could appeal if Senesi wants an entirely fresh start with a new number. Why the No.5 shirt looks like the obvious choiceIf history is anything to go by, the No.5 shirt feels like the most likely outcome. Centre-backs traditionally gravitate towards Nos.4 and 5, and Senesi has already spent the last two seasons wearing No.5 at Bournemouth. There is also a nostalgic element for Tottenham supporters, given the No.5 shirt has not been worn by a defender since club icon Jan Vertonghen departed in 2020, and many fans still associate the number with the Belgian. The only real obstacle to Senesi taking No.5 may be Micky Van de Ven. The Dutchman has worn No.37 since arriving at Tottenham, but many fans have expected him to eventually move to a more traditional centre-back number. Having previously worn No.5 at Wolfsburg, the vacant shirt could appeal to him if he decides now is the right time for a change.Should Van de Ven make that change, Senesi would likely look towards Nos.3 or 6 instead, particularly if Dragusin and Palhinha complete expected summer departures. For now, though, No.5 remains the clear frontrunner and would probably be the least surprising choice when Senesi is officially unveiled as a Tottenham player.READ MORE: How Marcos Senesi’s salary will fit in with Tottenham’s strict wage structureThe post Tottenham shirt numbers Marcos Senesi could wear, one stands out above the rest appeared first on Spurs Web.
