Travel for Endometriosis Surgery - Bowel Prep

Wait 5 sec.

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has traveled for endometriosis excision surgery. I have advanced Stage 4 disease with confirmed bowel involvement on imaging and the colo-rectal surgeon is having me do a full bowel prep the day before surgery, as it is highly likely I will need a bowel resection. I live about 1.5hrs away from my surgeon/hospital in NYC, and my pre-op instructions are making me wonder about the logistics of where to stay the day before surgery. I will be on a clear liquid diet (broth, Jell-O, etc.), needing to take prescribed antibiotics, and there's an antibacterial shower protocol as well. The surgeon has said most people at my distance drive to the hospital on the day of surgery but the thought of spending at least 1.5hrs in the car after doing the bowel prep, with the possibility of having an accident on the way to surgery is stressful. I've thought about wearing diapers on the drive there in case there's an accident, but worry that soiling a diaper will not be hygenic right before surgery. For those of you who traveled for surgery, did you stay at a hotel near the hospital the night before, or did you stay at home and drive in the morning? If you stayed nearby, when did you travel—before starting the bowel prep or after? How did you handle packing the clear liquids/jello/popsickles and doing the 2 anti-bacterial showers? It would be great to hear how others handled the logistics, when having to complete a bowel prep before surgery. Any tips or things you wish you had known beforehand would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/Free_Noise2001 [link] [comments]
