By Vered Weiss, World Israel NewsHezbollah has agreed to a US proposal for a mutual ceasefire covering all of Lebanon, according to an announcement by the Lebanese presidency citing information from the Lebanese Embassy in Washington.According to the statement, discussions included communications between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.The Lebanese Embassy in Washington said authorities in Beirut received confirmation that Hezbollah had accepted a US-backed proposal calling for a reciprocal halt to attacks.“Within the framework of the efforts undertaken by the Lebanese state to preserve stability and spare Lebanon from further escalation—and following the communication that took place between the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio—Lebanese authorities received confirmation of Hezbollah’s agreement to the U.S. proposal calling for a mutual cessation of attacks,” the Embassy stated.According to the embassy, the proposed arrangement would begin with a halt to Israeli military action in Beirut’s southern suburbs in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from attacks against Israel.“Under the proposed arrangement, Israeli strikes on the Southern Suburbs of Beirut would cease in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from carrying out attacks against Israel, with the scope of the ceasefire subsequently being expanded to encompass the entirety of Lebanese territory.”The statement said President Donald Trump later spoke with Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States, Nada Maawad, and informed her that he had obtained the agreement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the proposed framework.“Subsequently, President Donald Trump placed a call to Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, Nada Maawad, informing her that he had secured the agreement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the proposed arrangement,” the statement continued.“Ambassador Maawad conveyed the outcome of these discussions to President Aoun, who, in turn, communicated this information to Hezbollah.”The post Hezbollah accepts US-backed ceasefire proposal for all of Lebanon appeared first on World Israel News.
