ADPD leader Sandra Gauci has signalled that she is not ready to step away from politics after all, just days after suggesting she may leave public life following the general election. In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, Gauci said she was satisfied with her personal result but expressed frustration at Malta’s gender quota mechanism, which will once again leave her outside Parliament despite securing 594 votes on the sixth district and 950 votes on the 12th district.“They say you should leave at the top, and that’s 99% what I’m going to do,” she said at the time. While Gauci stopped short of announcing her resignation as ADPD chairperson, she made it clear that she intended to take a break from politics. However, a new Facebook post published on Wednesday suggests she has had a change of heart.Referring to the support she received in recent days, Gauci said the messages left her speechless and made her realise she could not simply stay silent.“You have one coming if you think I will accept anything thrown at me without replying,” she wrote.Gauci also confirmed that she will continue serving as a councillor in St Paul’s Bay and remain at the helm of ADPD.“From Monday I will continue my work for the people of St Paul’s Bay. I assure them I am still in the council in the same way I am still chairperson of ADPD,” she said.Should the gender quota mechanism be reformed?•
