Hi everyone! So after 6 months of waiting I have managed to land a gynaecology appointment for next week. My situation is a bit complicated so I’ll do my best to explain it. I was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst on my right ovary and possible PCOS 5 years ago. End of last year I had another ultrasound as I had some new symptoms and they found what they believed to be an endometrioma, alongside my dermoid cyst which has not changed in size, and they are both similar sizes (on the same ovary.) I’ve had very irregular periods since I started having them, and I frequently get intense pain on my right side, where the cysts are. I’m not a doctor but I think it’s likely the dermoid cyst could be throwing my hormones out of whack and causing the irregular periods, and the endometrioma causes the pain. I really want to push for surgery to have the cysts removed - I imagine it’s unlikely the doctor will agree to it, but I really just want to have normal periods, and I want the pain to stop. And the only way they will diagnose endometriosis is via surgery, and I can’t go another 5 years with no answers. I don’t want to go through loads of different birth controls - I have been on desogestrel for nearly 2 years now, and I have gotten on very well with it with little to no side effects and I don’t want to risk changing it. My mum is adamant that if they suggest I get the coil I refuse, as she had it for her menopause I believe and had a terrible reaction to it. The main thing I’m really asking here is does anyone have any tips on how I can push for the surgery? Is it likely they will hear me out? Thanks in advance 😊 submitted by /u/cottonsockkss [link] [comments]
