Tenge Tenge needs to be protected at all costs, especially from his father

Many people’s lives around the world have changed after getting a co-sign or simply appearing on American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr., popularly known as iShowSpeed’s live streams. He is widely regarded as the most influential streamer in the world, and even his visit to the Shea Butter Museum in Ghana boosted the business so much that they were reportedly booked out for almost two months. As the Tenge Tenge sound and memes started making rounds on the internet, his appearance on Speed’s livestream in January 2024 took him and the memes to a global level of virality. The two finally got to meet in Kenya during Speed’s African tour earlier this year.He has also worked with Noel Robinson, popularly known as Noelgoescrazy, a couple of times, one of Germany’s biggest social media stars. One would think that after this kind of exposure, Tenge Tenge’s life would only get better from there, but that hasn’t been the case.A few days ago, Tenge Tenge’s father came out and accused his manager, Mike, of exploiting his son and not being transparent when it comes to the boy’s earnings. A large percentage of people online sided with the father before even hearing Mike’s side. Then, as Bruno K hosted both parties on his live, watching Tenge Tenge speak to Mike with so much anger, it became clear that he had been fed a lot of false information, and later, the viewers discovered that the father had been receiving money and using it for other things.Tenge Tenge is one of Uganda’s most followed creators on social media, with over 20 million followers across different platforms. The following alone shows just how much of an internet sensation and household name he has become over the past few years. But as things stand, it feels like his name is bigger than the reality of how he is living, which is not what many would expect.Dauda Kavuma urges cooperation in resolving Tenge Tenge’s social media disputeWith a well-organized team around him, this boy should be touring the world, working with major brands, and the only thing he should be worried about is his passport running out of pages and his homework. Just like the Triplets, he should be moving like that because he is that famous. I also think Mike could learn a thing or two from Kavuma, who manages Ghetto Kids.As I write this, Tenge Tenge and Manager Mike have reconciled and are committed to working together again going forward. But in my opinion, because he is still a minor, proper measures need to be put in place to protect him from exploitation by the people around him. With his father still heavily involved, it’s going to be difficult for Mike to fully execute his duties as manager. The more videos I watch, the more I realize how misinformed his father seems to be, and how his biggest concern appears to be money. He also needs to understand Mike’s importance in Tenge Tenge’s career. Beyond reportedly mismanaging the money Mike has given him in the past, claiming YouTube makes a lot of money simply because of subscribers despite little recent activity, he also turned down Bruno K’s suggestion of finding a good school willing to offer the boy a bursary, while at the same time saying he can’t afford school fees for him. That’s the same way Champion Gudo missed out on a lifetime opportunity. They need to build a proper team around him consisting of people whose work directly contributes to his growth and success, and who can move with him consistently wherever he goes. That can include a social media manager and a videographer.People who understand his vision, help shape his career, and are invested in building something long-term with him. It shouldn’t be a situation where every trip or booking comes with a different group of people tagging along with no clear roles. It’s nice for his siblings to travel with him sometimes, but if those trips are work-related, the priority should be having the right people around him who actually help him create, document, and maximize those opportunities. They also need to work on a content plan. If the plan is to keep doing the same dance in 2026, I doubt it will continue generating meaningful income. Trends come and go. They need to sit down, decide what direction they want to take, and figure out the type of content they want to make, especially on YouTube. They need to work on the boy’s branding first, then get back to securing gigs. With the help of a lawyer, they should also put a proper contract in place. Give the father 5%, then let Tenge Tenge and Mike agree on how the remaining percentage should be split. It shouldn’t be a situation where money is distributed informally, with people who contribute nothing to the boy’s career benefiting from his work.As for the Black Market issues and ownership of the social media accounts, a lawyer should advise them because they understand intellectual property and the legal side of these matters much better. That social media issue needs to be resolved now.Whether people like it or not, a time will come when Tenge Tenge is a grown man and should have full access to his pages. If that’s not settled now, it will continue being a problem later. Those, among many other measures, could help Tenge Tenge and his manager get him back to where he’s supposed to be.The post Tenge Tenge needs to be protected at all costs, especially from his father appeared first on MBU.
