One UI 8.5 gives you more room to customize and tune the look and behavior of your Galaxy phone than you might realize. Some of these options sit right in the stock settings, and some are available through Samsung's Good Lock app. Here's a look at a few worth setting up, from the Quick Panel all the way to AI-generated wallpapers.Resize and rearrange the Quick PanelThe Quick Panel is the easiest place to start. Access it by swiping down from the top of the screen twice, tap the edit (pencil) icon, and you can move toggles around, swap them out, and resize them. Some toggles shrink to a single square or stretch across two. When nothing's playing, it stays at its default size.To remove a toggle you don't use, such as Modes, tap the “-” icon next to it to delete it. Tap Add a control for more toggles, including toggles for third-party apps like Amazon or Google TV.If you want finer control over toggle sizes, install Good Lock from the Galaxy Store or Play Store and install the QuickStar module from within Good Lock's Plugins tab. Open QuickStar from Good Lock, toggle it on, then under Advanced settings, turn on Resize panel items. Now you can make toggles and sliders bigger than the stock editor allows. That said, don't go overboard, as resizing every toggle just makes the Quick Panel messier than the stock layout. Those small indicators at the top of the viewfinder can pile up, but you can clear them out.First, install Camera Assistant from the Galaxy Store (alternatively, download the Good Lock app from the Galaxy Store or Play Store and install Camera Assistant from Good Lock's Plugins tab). Open Camera Assistant from the app drawer or the camera app's settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Customize indicators. From there, toggle off the ones you don't want for a cleaner viewfinder. Don't worry: everything you removed remains available from the four-dot menu at the bottom right of the viewfinder. However, a few, such as Log and HDR, will always be visible in Video mode as they are turned on elsewhere in the camera settings. The resolution readout is persistent as well to ensure you always know what resolution you're shooting at.Set a custom home screen folder size with Home UpHome Up is another Good Lock module, and it adds a small but useful option for One UI 8.5: custom home screen folder sizes. Install Home Up from the Good Lock app's Plugins tab and open it, then turn on Home Up using the toggle at the top so you can access all of its features. Then, tap the Home screen card and scroll down to the bottom to find Large folder. In the Large folder menu, you will find a Custom setting. Enable it. Now, when you long press a folder on the home screen, you will be able to resize it freely. Instead of the old fill-in-the-prompt approach, Creative Studio can build one around your own photo. Open Creative Studio from the app drawer, then scroll left to find and tap the Create wallpaper button. First, choose the style — childhood sketch, oil painting, webtoon, 3D cartoon, and so on — by tapping the wand icon, then add an image from your gallery that you want to build the wallpaper around. Then, use the text field to describe what you want, like “a villa overlooking this view” (this is just an example). Hit Generate, and Creative Studio will blend your prompt, the photo, and the style into a finished wallpaper.Don't like the result? You can edit the prompt, switch the style, or generate another version. When you get something you like, tap the Set as wallpaper button and apply it to your home screen, lock screen, or both. You can now add widgets to the DeX home screen, which gives the desktop layout a more tablet-like feel while keeping the desktop environment intact. Adding widgets in DeX is easy. Just right-click on an empty area of the desktop (if you're using your phone's display as a trackpad for DeX, tap the display with two fingers to simulate a right-click) and select Widgets.
