Luis Ortiz still packs a punch at 47-years-old. The former world heavyweight title challenger scored a brutal knockout on Sunday night on a Team Boxing League (TBL) bill in Nashville, Tennessee.Ortiz is well past his best, but he is still capable of laying out low-level oppositionOrtiz hasn’t been in a meaningful fight since his unanimous decision loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in September 2022.However, he is currently riding a three-fight winning streak against lower-level opposition. The last time he stepped between the ropes in September 2025, Ortiz flattened the unheralded Phillip Penson inside the opening stanza. And his opponent over the weekend, Stephon Moss, fell to the same fate. Two looping left hands from the southpaw stance sent Moss tumbling underneath the ropes, where he was subsequently counted out by the referee. It marked Moss’ seventh straight loss in TBL and his first inside the distance. The 36-year-old boxed to a decent level in the unpaid ranks, winning the New England Golden Gloves tournament in 2019.However, he proved no match for Ortiz, who, while 11 years his senior, far outweighed him in terms of experience. What did Luis Ortiz achieve in boxing?Ortiz is perhaps best known for his two fights with Deontay Wilder for the WBC world heavyweight title. On both occasions, Ortiz was able to outbox Wilder for long stretches before succumbing to a knockout loss. He was largely avoided at the peak of his powers and is widely viewed as one of the great ‘What Ifs’ of the 2010s glamour division. Now deep in his forties, it remains to be seen where Ortiz fits into the heavyweight picture. It seems as though the Cuban veteran is hanging on for one last big payday. But at his advanced age, few will be queuing up to fight him.Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
