I don't know how y'all peds nurses handle child abuse cases

Wait 5 sec.

Like as an ER nurse I generally try to avoid peds, but I have always worked in a mix adult/peds ERs. I just had a 23 day old baby with a skull fracture and a brain bleed. I got the weirdest feeling watching the parents, and me, primary RN, and Doc got separate stories. I kept pushing for imaging, saying something doesn't feel right - I know we'll obs them but please push for imaging. I also got the weirdest feeling about the baby, vitals WNL but I couldn't shake it. Doc came up to me after we saw the scan and said, "how did you know?" I just told him, "I don't know, but I really fucking hate it when I am right about these things." The intuition after seeing the small subtleness with abusive/neglectful parents, and something looked off about that baby. Sometimes you just have to trust your gut and I am glad the doctor did with mine. And this falls under the many CPS reports I have done. I'm tired, y'all. submitted by /u/Nyolia [link] [comments]
