But the best single night of wrestling goes to… WrestleMania 19 (I know, probably not what you were expecting.) Four matches are legit classics: Jericho v. Shawn Michaels. Jericho legit idolized Michaels, building his persona and style around what HBK did. Finally, he gets the chance to show that the protege has surpassed the master, in a show-stealing masterpiece rooted in reality. Vince McMahon v. Hulk Hogan. All the Mr. McMahon WM matches are spectacles, but this is my favorite of the bunch. Incredible action—Vince does a leg drop off the top of a ladder onto the table!—a great premise (who really deserves the credit for WrestleMania??), and a finish that’ll pop you at any age. Add in the best camera shot in Mania history and you’ve got everything an attraction match should be. Rock-Austin III. Stone Cold’s last match, aside from his one-off appearance at WrestleMania 38 19 years later. The two delivered again in the only Mania match between the two without outside interference. Kurt Angle v. Brock Lesnar. The two most bona fide shooters in WWE history putting on the most realistic, gritty main event in Mania history. Its murderous-looking botch gets the headlines, although the whole match is a must-watch. And that’s not it. What separates WM19 from the rest is literally every single match on the card. Even the potential duds like Taker v. Big Show and A-Train and Trish v. Victoria v. Jazz over-deliver. A few other Manias I loved: WrestleMania 17: The gold standard, although I thought the “shocking reveal” in the finish could’ve been executed much tighter. WrestleMania 21, WrestleMania 31, and WrestleMania 37: Similar to WM19 in that the cards are incredibly deep, but each had at least a couple of matches that didn’t deliver. WrestleMania 40: Iconic main event finish, although again, a few holes in the middle of the card. It’s not to say those aren’t more influential. But, at least for me, if you want one night that captures how consistently great in-ring wrestling can be, check out WrestleMania 19. submitted by /u/PaulPetroneWWE [link] [comments]
