Hi everyone, A while back I posted a video of Retro Rewind running natively on the Switch 2. The source is now on GitHub, with a step-by-step setup guide: https://github.com/6rimson/WiiCompiled-Switch2 It’s a fork of WiiCompiled with Retro Rewind, running through RavensClawX’s HBLauncher. It’s an experimental project for anyone wants to try it. I’d like to keep improving its performance and fixing issues, but nothing is guaranteed and newer, more polished homebrew tools will likely make this way of running it outdated. What works: Retro Rewind: menu, saves, and offline races and battles Offline races running near 60 FPS in lighter stretches of tracks, and low to mid 50s sometimes in a full 12-kart pack Online play on Retro WFC (may look choppy at times due to Retro Rewind's frame skip code) Plain Mario Kart Wii, but it's experimental and slower in races compared to Retro Rewind What you need: An Apple Silicon Mac with Docker Desktop (Windows isn’t supported by ns2jb; Linux is untested) Ethernet connection on both the Mac and the Switch 2 Your own Mario Kart Wii PAL disc (RMCP01) A Switch 2 firmware that ns2jb supports Main limitations: Your PC has to stay on as the game reads its files from it over the network Don't press the plus button. SmileBASIC still runs underneath, and plus stops it, which ends the session. The Wii's pause button is now mapped to minus, and the port’s menu is L + R + right stick click Gameplay frame rate isn't steady 60fps, and other known issues are in the README Made with AI assistance: This project was developed with AI assistance with Claude Code. Credits: WiiCompiled (patchzyy and contributors), HBLauncher and the Twilight Princess port (RavensClawX), ns2jb (Sammy Hajhamid / pepsipu, and kurumuz), DriftDroid (dorPXP), Retro Rewind + RetroWFC (ZPL and team), plus aurora, Dawn and SDL. The full credits are in the README. Hope you guys enjoy. If you have any feedback or bug reports, feel free to let me know! submitted by /u/Ok_Silver5926 [link] [comments]
