Hello guys, I’m gonna apologize for the messy english writting. For context, I live in Portugal and I’m taking my masters in critical nursing. (It’s my passion field and I would love to work in ICU) For now Ive been a nurse in a medsurge unit for about 2 years, meaning I work in shifts. It’s being really hard to manage both. I want to be able to go to classes but trading shifts with my coworkers isn’t easy and they also assume students are “ruining their schedule”. I have a one hour commute to my hospital and back which I try to use to study a bit and do some part of the projects but sometimes the train is either too full or too noisy. We also had a nurse shortage (shocking) so our schedules were really overwhelmed. I feel tired all the time, and I feel like I don’t even have time to clean the house. I try to plan my week, to prep as much as I can and it’s still being hard to manage. The anxiety and the overwhelming shifts have not helped, I have a hard time actually sleeping, and I always wake up with a jaw ache and head tension (ive spoken to my family medicine doctor about this, she prescribed me something to help out sleep when Ive had too many bad sleep days in a row and I also take magnesium daily). Note: my schedule isn’t really “predictable” we either do day shift then night shift, then we change to mornings or afternoons, it’s overall very chaotic. Specially since my chief nurse does my schedule around my classes. Can you guys that have been in similar situations give any advice on how you did it? submitted by /u/EvieTan [link] [comments]
