Whisper Hill Farms homebred TAP TO OPEN (f, 3, Tapit–I'll Take Charge, by Indian Charlie), the beautifully-bred full-sister to MGSW/GISP Charge It, rebounded off a fourth in the GI Cotillion to win Saturday's GII Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park under Manny Franco.A winner of the listed Cathryn Sophia Stakes two back as the heavy favorite, Tap to Open endured a wide trip in the Cotillion at Parx Sept. 19, finishing a gaining fourth behind fellow Mother Goose runner Bodacious Bay (Not This Time), GI Kentucky Oaks winner Always a Runner (Gun Runner) and last weekend's GI Breeders' Cup Distaff third Measure (Essential Quality).Sticking to that same 1 1/16-mile distance Saturday at Belmont, Tap to Open jumped at 5-1 odds and was outsprinted by a majority of the field, though things stayed tightly bunched down the backstretch as she settled sixth along the rail in the second flight of runners as Iron Orchard (Authentic) and 4-5 favorite Bodacious Bay put up fractions of :23.19 and :45.94.Enjoying a ground-saving trip against the fence around the far turn, Manny Franco had his filly ready to roll as she dove through an opening outside of the tiring Iron Orchard with just over a furlong to run. Powering through that gap, Tap to Open had no problem running right by Bodacious Bay and opening up a safe enough gap to hold off the closing Answered Prayers (Speightstown) with Tahlequah (Authentic) coming home third.
