HOW-TO: BUY and SELL in Trend Signal — stocks and ETFsApple Inc.NASDAQ:AAPLpreuss_steffenBUY marks the daily close on which the short-term trend surges unusually strongly; SELL marks the first close on which that surge fades. A position usually lasts one to two weeks. How they were tested: each BUY was compared with 20 random entries in the same symbol, on days in the same trend state, with the same exit (the SELL rule) and the same costs. Results are calculated per day the position is held, so a position does not look better just because it lasts longer. - US stocks, 2011–2026: the BUY signals gave more return per day than the random entries. - US stocks, 2001–2009 (only stocks that still existed in 2010): no advantage over the random entries. - US equity ETFs, 2000–2026: ahead of the random entries, positive in every period. - European-listed funds on the same index, bought and sold one exchange day after the US signal, 2010–2026: ahead of the random entries as well. - Buying and selling one trading day later, as an alert after the close requires, was tested too and showed no disadvantage. A light-green BUY marks a stock that has mostly moved on its own over the past year; the signal still counts, only its colour changes. Everything happens on the daily chart (1D): signals, routine and alerts. A second, shorter chart is not needed — buy and sell at the open or the close. How to use the signals: set alerts for BUY and SELL; check the Asset type setting (stock or ETF); on a BUY, enter at the close or on the next trading day; leave at the first SELL; keep each position small — many single positions end with a loss. Past results do not predict future results. Script: Trend Signal —
