THE RUNDOWNOlivia Rodrigo released her latest single, “Take Me Home (4 Christmas),” on November 6.This marks her first-ever holiday track.Rodrigo also shared a music video starring Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall to accompany the song. With just 50 days left until Christmas, Olivia Rodrigo is getting into the holiday spirit early with the arrival of her first official festive single, “Take Me Home (4 Christmas).”The track, released on November 6, sees the pop star celebrating both the holiday and the joy she gets from having the right person by her side to enjoy the festivities. In her own words, the song—written with her frequent collaborators, Dan Nigro and Amy Allen—captures “the excitement and nerves of spending the holidays with someone you love.”Rodrigo turns a cheeky eye to holiday traditions on the track. Instead of simply embracing the festivities of the season, like Christmas carols and gift exchange, she sees it as an opportunity to get commitment out of the object of her affections. “Take me home to your parents’ house/ I want you to take me home/Show me serious commitment,” she sings on the chorus of the track. The pop star also fantasizes about what future holidays with her partner could look like, and has several activities on her agenda for future Christmases: “Wanna get drunk with your mother and father/I’d be the coolest in-law daughter/Hungover brunch with you and your sister/Your exes got the summer, but boy, I get the winter,” Rodrigo adds.In addition to dropping the song, Rodrigo also gave the single a Christmas-themed music video starring Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live cast member Ben Marshall. In the video, Rodrigo and Marshall show up as each other’s date to a Christmas-themed party hosted by Nixon. Classic holiday activities—such as posing for photos in ugly Christmas sweaters, decorating gingerbread houses, playing charades, and sitting down for an enormous dinner—ensue, and the festivities get so wild that Marshall and a few other guests end up passing out until the next morning. Rodrigo, dressed in a sheer black négligé, is left to clean up the mess left behind.“Take Me Home (4 Christmas)” isn’t the only Christmas track that the pop star has written. Rodrigo wrote a holiday track called “The Bels” when she was just 5 years old, and released a snippet from the song in 2021. “In honor of Christmas Eve may I present to you my very first Christmas song ‘The Bels’ written by 5 year old me lol. Happy holidays!!!!” she shared at the time.On Dec. 17, 2022, “The Bels” arrived in full. Rodrigo’s fan hub, LiviesHQ, shared the full version of the track as the last surprise in her 12 days of Livmas.Watch the music video and read the lyrics to “Take Me Home (4 Christmas)” below.View full post on YouTube[Intro]Alright, wooSo you’ve never met anyone who’s into you?Um, I love him, I like himCome on, guys[Verse 1]It's the third time this week we've been to this barPlaying “Joy to the World” on electric guitarAnd we’re three beers deep and they're closing in 10Oh, boy, don't you know what kind of girl I've been?[Pre-Chorus]I've been patient and merry and kindAnd I've been waiting a really long time[Chorus]I want you to take me homeAnd not so we can make outI want you to take me homeTake me home to your parents’ houseI want you to take me homeShow me serious commitmentI want you to take me homeYeah, come on, take me home for Christmas[Post-Chorus]Come on, take me home for ChristmasCome on, take me home for Christmas[Verse 2]Woke up late, but your momma don’t careAnd she walked in on me in just my underwear (Ah)Now your whole family’s peeking under the treeOh, look at that, a bunch of gifts they got from me[Pre-Chorus]‘Cause I’m so thoughtful and merry and kindAnd I was waiting a really long time[Chorus]I want you to take me homeAnd not so we can make outI want you to take me homeTake me home to your parents’ houseI want you to take me homeShow me serious commitmentI want you to take me homeYeah, come on, take me home for Christmas[Post-Chorus]Come on, take me home for ChristmasCome on, take me home for Christmas[Bridge]Wanna get drunk with your mother and fatherI’d be the coolest in-law daughterHungover brunch with you and your sisterYour exes got the summer, but boy, I get the winterWanna get drunk with your mother and father (Wishing you happy holidays)I'd be the coolest in-law daughter (Sent from my boyfriend's parents' place)Hungover brunch with you and your sister (I'll trim the tree and bake the yule)Your exes got the summer, but boy, I get the winter (As long as your grandma thinks I'm cool)[Outro]Feliz NavidadAnd a Happy New Year, wooI thought you were coming to my house for Christmas this year
