Govt. home watchman arrested for assaulting disabled woman over rice smuggling report - The HinduUpdated - November 06, 2026 09:58 pm IST - SIVAGANGASivaganga police have arrested a female night watchman of a government destitute home for attacking a disabled woman who lodged a complaint regarding ration rice smuggling.Police said, Subhaja, 34, an orphaned and disabled woman, resides in the Sivaganga Urban Habitat Development Board apartment complex and also serves as the president of its residents’ association.Recently, residents informed Subhaja that M. Malarvizhi, 34, and a few others had rented apartments in the complex and were smuggling ration rice in a car. A few days ago, Subhaja lodged a complaint regarding this with the Sivaganga District Collector.Enraged by this, Malarvizhi attacked Subhaja on Thursday. The injured Subhaja was admitted to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital.Following the circulation of CCTV footage of this incident on social media, the Sivaganga Town Police registered a case and arrested Malarvizhi.
