I’ve been a full-time pre-op/PACU RN at an outpatient surgery center for nearly two years, and I’m honestly at my breaking point. I’ve worked incredibly hard, taken on additional responsibilities, and was promoted to charge nurse. When new management came in, I was reassured that my position and additional pay were safe because they recognized my hard work and said I deserved the bump in pay but in my very next paycheck, charge pay was gone because they decided a charge nurse was no longer necessary. Now management is obsessed with cutting costs. I’ve been refused the opportunity to work Fridays because I had 34 hours. I’m FULL TIME btw... Our hours are already inconsistent due to low census forcing us to use PTO or lose income. This week, my manager asked me to do them a favor and come in at 9. because our PAT lady is sick. I happily agreed and appreciated the opportunity to get an extra hour but that morning, traffic was horrible and im used to coming in at 6 not 9am, and when I asked if I could arrive 30 minutes later, I was rudely told they didn’t care about the length of my commute and that I needed to be there at 9. I arrived BEFORE 9, only to find my manager who was supposed to be there at 7 wasn’t even there yet. Later that afternoon, while I was completing the calls they asked me to do that morning because manger was late I was abruptly told I needed to leave within five minutes and told after "you better have left within 5 mins like we said". I also found out management had questioned why I stayed until almost 5 p.m. on a separate day this week, even though our last patient wasn’t discharged until around 4:30, still have to clean up and count etc.... Then today, a coworker greeted me with, “Well, hello there, hours whore.” she told me the manager had been complaining about me getting too many hours and used that exact phrase to describe me. Our managers watches cameras constantly, scrutinizes clock-in/out times, and criticizes nurses for sitting down. Meanwhile, I’ve personally witnessed him several times sitting in his office with his feet kicked up on the desk and scrolling Instagram on multiple occasions as well as other people. The double standard is incredibly frustrating. I’m a full-time nurse trying to work my hours, help my team, and do my job well. I feel like I’m constantly being criticized for wanting to work and work hard. I actually cried over this yesterday. I’ve started applying elsewhere, but I genuinely don’t want to leave. I love my doctors, my coworkers, and the clinical side of my job. I’ve invested so much into this facility, and it hurts that management is making me consider walking away. What would you do? Has anyone dealt with something similar and did you eventually leave? Is this level of micromanagement and pressure normal in other ASCs? submitted by /u/Mundane_Handle_9349 [link] [comments]
