Malta’s familiar landscapes and historic surroundings are being reimagined through light, movement and abstraction in a new fine art photography exhibition opening in Naxxar later this month.Titled Grains of Light, the exhibition by artist James Roadley-Battin will take place at Tal-Għaħba Windmill from 21st to 29th November, offering visitors a fresh perspective on the island’s heritage and natural beauty.Rather than capturing Malta through traditional landscape photography, Roadley-Battin takes a more experimental approach, using light and movement to transform recognisable scenes into abstract compositions that blur the boundaries between photography and painting. The result is a collection of artworks that encourage viewers to look beyond the familiar and discover a different side of the Maltese Islands. Each photograph offers its own interpretation of Malta, combining elements of mystery, texture and colour to create images that feel closer to paintings than conventional photographs. And for art collectors, there’s something particularly special about this exhibition.Every artwork in the collection is a unique, one-of-a-kind print, meaning only a single edition of each piece will be available. The photographs are also produced using museum-quality printing techniques on Hahnemühle William Turner 310gsm paper, made from 100% cotton, giving the works a distinctive fine art finish. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity not only to experience Malta through a different artistic lens but also to acquire an exclusive piece of photography inspired by the island.Set within the historic surroundings of Tal-Għaħba Windmill in Naxxar, Grains of Light brings together Malta’s architectural heritage and a contemporary artistic interpretation of its landscapes. The exhibition will open on Saturday 21st November from 7pm to 9pm, with visitors also able to attend on Sunday 22nd November between 10am and 4pm.From Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th November, opening hours will be from 3pm to 7.30pm, while Thursday 26th November will see the exhibition open from 3pm to 5pm.The exhibition is scheduled to run until 29th November, although opening hours for the final three days have not yet been provided. For anyone interested in photography, contemporary art or simply seeing Malta from a different perspective, Grains of Light offers an opportunity to rediscover the island through an artist’s imagination.Would you like to see more exhibitions showcasing Malta’s landscapes and heritage through contemporary art?•
