I'm a senior product designer (10+ years) and I've been doing AI training work on Mercor and micro1 alongside my regular work. I kept getting asked what it actually is and where to find it, so I started tracking every open role I could find that's a fit for designers. What the work actually is: AI labs pay designers to judge AI-generated work: scoring UI layouts, critiquing images, writing grading rubrics, explaining why one design works and another doesn't. You don't need any AI or ML background. They're paying for design judgment. What it pays: Most design roles I've seen land around $35–$110/hr. Some senior and specialist roles go higher, and basic labeling work goes lower. A lot of it is part-time and flexible, but some roles are US only and some want full-time hours, so read the listing. Things I wish I'd known: - It can be slow. I got an offer months after interviewing, so don't read silence as a no. - On Mercor, once you're in the system, offers can show up later for roles you never applied to. - Legit platforms never charge you to apply. If one asks for money, walk away. I keep the list here, with pay, hours and who can apply for each role, and I take roles down when they close: https://aiexpertwork.com/jobs/?utm_source=reddit Full disclosure: some of the Apply links are my referral links. If you get hired through one, I may get a referral bonus. It doesn't cost you anything or change your pay, and I list roles whether or not I have a referral for them. Happy to answer questions about the interviews or what the day-to-day work is like. submitted by /u/Background-Ad-9924 [link] [comments]
