His offensive contribution was lacking, with several poor deliveries. In the second half, it was more of the same from the full-back, who struggled defensively at times and offered little going forward. He has had better days, for sure. He was lucky not to be sent off for a challenge on Nmecha after an earlier booking. 3.Jan Paul van Hecke – In the first 45 minutes, he made a few good defensive contributions, getting his head to several crosses into the box. In the second half, he was forced into more defensive work as Leeds looked to get in front, but he held his own under Leeds pressure. He did come close to an equaliser late on after heading from Robertson’s free kick, but it was well saved by Trafford. 5.Micky van de Ven – After a quieter first half with few fires to put out, Van de Ven was called into defensive action early in the second half as Leeds upped the ante. The Dutchman had to make a few clearances from crosses and even denied Leeds what would have been a tap-in for Solanke early in the half. On a few occasions, he had to step on the gas and use his pace to provide defensive cover. 4.Andy Robertson – The full-back offered little going forward in the first half, and that continued in the second half, with Porro instead given the licence to get forward. Leeds also barely threatened down his side, leaving him with little to do defensively. Came close to an assist late on in the second half after putting in a wicked delivery from a free kick which met van Hecke’s head, but he failed to convert. 5.Mateus Fernandes – After a shaky start in the first half that saw him involved in a penalty shout, Fernandes grew into the game and managed to snuff out a few Leeds attacks, making crucial interceptions and tackles to break up play. In the second half, though, his influence dwindled, which allowed Farke’s men to see more of the ball and sustain pressure. He was eventually substituted. 6.Sandro Tonali – Handed a more advanced role as an eight, he mainly looked to join attacks and get into the box for crosses and cutbacks. That tweak proved ineffective, with Tonali barely influencing the game and managing fewer touches as well. In the second half, Spurs struggled to control midfield, and the midfielder continued to struggle to get on the ball, often having to drop deep to receive it. 4.5.Archie Gray – Was used as an eight in the first half and was a real passenger in that set-up. He saw little of the ball and barely offered Tottenham any sort of control. In the second half, he was moved to right-back after Porro was substituted. 4.5.Mohammed Kudus – Managed to beat his man a few times and got crosses into the box in the first half, but his delivery was way below his usual standards. In the second half, it was more of the same, with Kudus barely putting in a dangerous cross. He was eventually moved to the left when Kulusevski came on. 4.Omar Marmoush – Started the match as the centre-forward and had a good chance from a cutback, but his effort was rather tame. Following Tel’s substitution, he was moved to the left and offered little in attack, rarely beating his man. He was substituted after a lacklustre showing. 3.Mathys Tel – His best moment came on a quick break in the first half, when he had plenty of space to drive at the Leeds backline. He found Marmoush with his cutback, but the forward’s effort was tame. He took a blow late in the first half when Bogle caught him studs-first on the Achilles, and he needed treatment. Bogle, however, was not sent off after a lengthy VAR check. 5.5.SubstitutesDominic Solanke – Replaced Tel late in the first half and had no real sniff at goal, as Spurs created no real chances for the centre-forward in the second half. He did, however, make a crucial block from a Leeds corner to stop them going in front early in the second half. 5.Conor Gallagher – Came on for Porro and had a really good chance to put Tottenham in front, with a long-range effort that almost found its way into the bottom corner. 5.Dejan Kulusevski – Replaced Marmoush and went straight to the right wing, but barely created anything of real quality. 5.Rodrigo Bentancur – Came on for Fernandes and brought some much-needed control to midfield, but it was not enough for Spurs. 6.Luca Williams-Barnett – Replaced Kudus and went straight to the left as De Zerbi looked for a spark in attack. He did look bright during his short cameo and could well have played Solanke in late on but his pass was intercepted.
