Hi everyone! I'm a registered nurse from Singapore with approximately 5 years of neonatal nursing experience. I started out in a Special Care Nursery before moving into a tertiary NICU, and neonatal nursing is an area I'm genuinely passionate about. I've been quite interested in the possibility of continuing my neonatal nursing career abroad. I've followed some of the neonatal nursing practices and models of care there and did a 4 week observership exchange in the US, so it's something I'd really love to experience professionally one day. I know there's quite a bit more to moving overseas than simply finding a nursing job, so I'm hoping to hear from people who have actually been through the experience! A few things I'd particularly love to know: For internationally educated nurses: How was your transition to nursing to the country you’re in now? Was your previous experience recognised, and did you feel adequately supported during orientation? For neonatal nurses: What's it really like working in the NICU/SCN there? How are the staffing, workload, workplace culture and opportunities for professional development? For those who moved from overseas: Were you able to continue in your specialty relatively easily, or did you have to take a different route before getting into neonatal nursing? I'd also love to hear about anything you wish you'd known before making the move, or any advice you'd give to someone considering it. I'm not looking to make an immediate move, but I'd genuinely appreciate hearing about your experiences – the good, the bad and everything in between! Thanks so much! :) submitted by /u/Immediate_Garlic_311 [link] [comments]
