Egyptian-themed slot? That’ll never catch on. Only joking, of course. Neon Valley Studios’ Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT fits smoothly into a long-standing casino tradition. It pairs a highly recognisable ancient aesthetic with a practical ‘Win Both Ways’ engine and a major progressive jackpot network. But what makes it tick, and does it have enough going for it to stand out among the best online slots? In this review, I’ll take a closer look at its features, gameplay and jackpot potential to see whether Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT is worth a spin, or best left in ancient history.Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT factsheet Name: Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT Software developer: Neon Valley Studios Slot type: Video slot with progressive jackpots Paylines: 10 bidirectional paylines Reels: 5 RTP: 92.5% Volatility: Medium Theme: Ancient Egypt Bonus round: Progressive jackpot wheel, expanding Wilds and respins Minimum bet: £0.10 Maximum bet: £200 Min coins per line: N/A Max coins per line: N/A Min coins size: N/A Max coins size: N/A Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT slot summarySimplicity is the name of the game with Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT. It’s a charming, inoffensive slot that doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. When Alexandria fills an entire reel with Wilds, there’s a satisfying little moment, while the coin sounds, sparkling effects and building music give the jackpot wheel a bit of theatre.Don’t expect too much in the way of variety, though. You’re largely bouncing between the base game and the jackpot wheel, with no conventional free spins or elaborate adventure-style bonus rounds to mix things up.The big draw is the chance to land one of four progressive jackpots, including the potentially life-changing WOWPOT prize. Before we get into the finer details, here’s how its pros and cons stack up: Pros ConsFour progressive jackpot tiers, with the WOWPOT starting at £2 millionGameplay can become repetitiveWin Both Ways paylines allow winning combinations in either directionNo conventional free spins or elaborate bonus roundsAlexandria’s expanding Wilds can fill a reel and trigger respins Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT features: Stats, bonus spins & specialsWell, there’s no point in lying, Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT isn’t bustling with features or complex adventure-based levels to complete.Instead, it offers 10 paylines that work in both directions, expanding Wilds that trigger respins and, of course, the headline act: a jackpot wheel with four progressive prizes. There’s no conventional free spins round to get your head around, but the Wilds can retrigger respins when more land on the reels. It’s a relatively modest feature set, then, with the potential rewards doing the heavy lifting.Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT slot RTP, payout & volatilityQueen of Alexandria WOWPOT has an overall RTP of 92.5%, below the roughly 96% figure often used as a benchmark for online slots. The reason is partly down to its progressive jackpot system: 5.3% of each stake contributes to the jackpot pools, leaving the base game with an RTP of 87.2%.Medium volatility means wins should strike a reasonable balance between frequency and size. Regular gameplay pays up to 500x your stake, excluding the progressive jackpots. The real clincher, of course, is the WOWPOT, which starts at £2 million. And that’s why we’re here, right?Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT special featuresQueen of Alexandria WOWPOT uses 10 Win Both Ways paylines, but its two main bonus features are expanding Wild respins and the progressive jackpot wheel. Here’s how they work.Expanding Wilds and respinsWild symbols appear on reels two, three and four, expanding to fill the entire reel when they land. This triggers a respin, with the expanded Wild locked in place. Any additional Wilds that land also expand and can trigger another respin, up to three successive respins.Progressive jackpot wheelDiamond symbols can appear over any symbol except Wilds on reels two, three and four. Collecting them gives you a chance to trigger the jackpot wheel, with that chance increasing alongside your bet. One important detail: diamond symbols cannot land during Wild respins. The wheel awards one of four progressive jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major or the WOWPOT jackpot. At the time of writing, the WOWPOT stood at £2.75 million, while the Major had climbed above £201,000. The Minor and Mini jackpots were worth £98 and £8.55, respectively. Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT slot theme, audio & gameplay mechanicsYes, you’re definitely here to see what I think about the audio on this game. For what it’s worth, Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT has everything you’d expect from an Egyptian-themed slot, from pyramids and golden treasures to ancient pillars. The soundtrack has an Arabic-inspired feel, while the clinking coins and sparkling effects give winning combinations a bit of life. There’s nothing especially groundbreaking about the presentation. In fact, Alexandria appearing in the expanding Wilds is about as dynamic as things get, but it does the job. Queen of Alexandria WOWPOT slot symbols, multipliers & wildsAt a £1 total bet, the golden sphinx BAR is the most valuable standard symbol, paying £25 for five of a kind. Red 7s come next at £12, while the yellow Egyptian-style symbol pays £6. At the other end, the green gem is the least valuable, awarding £2.50 for five matching symbols.Alexandria acts as the Wild, substituting for regular symbols to complete winning combinations. She can appear on reels two, three and four, expanding to fill the entire reel and triggering respins. There are no multipliers, so the focus is on symbol matches and those expanding Wilds.
