Newcastle are reportedly monitoring the progress of Will Lankshear following the striker’s sensational form at Middlesbrough.Lankshear has proven a huge success since his arrival from Tottenham for an initial £10million and ranks top of the Championship goalscoring charts.Lankshear has taken the Championship by storm this seasonGettyThe 21-year-old has fired in 13 goals in as many games – the best start to a season by a Boro player since George Camsell in 1926.His impressive form even put him in contention for a first-ever senior England call-up for the upcoming international break.talkSPORT’s Transfer Notebook revealed earlier this week that Three Lions boss Tuchel was keeping an eye on Lankshear and planned to send scouts to Boro’s clashwith Wrexham in midweek. However, the ex-Spurs man was ultimately forced to miss the clash – which ended in a 2-0 defeat to the Welsh outfit – through injury. And talkSPORT understands Lankshear was included in the 55-man list for England but the injury prevented him making the final squad.Crossing the North East divide? It wasn’t just the Three Lions coaches who missed out on a chance to catch Lankshear in action against Wrexham. The Sun report that Newcastle representatives were also due to attend the clash in North Wales to observe the striker. The Magpies could certainly do with adding some attacking firepower to their ranks after a series of failed transfers.Since selling Alexander Isak last summer, the Toon Army have spent around £180million on forwards but are yet to see the rewards.Among their big-money recruits have been club-record signing Nick Woltemade – bought for £69m but now on loan at Juventus – as well as Yoane Wissa (£55m) and Matias Fernandez-Pardo (£51m).An England Under-21 international, Lankshear was in contention for a senior call-up this weekGettyUnder fire Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle could certainly do with a goalscorerGettyShould Newcastle decide to go all in for Lankshear, any deal is sure to upset Boro fans given the North-East rivalry between the two clubs. That could potentially intensify next season too, with Kim Hellberg’s side bidding to return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2017.Lankshear’s goals will be vital in Boro achieving this goal, who felt his absence in their defeat to Wrexham on Wednesday. The 2-0 defeat was the first time they had failed to score in the Championship this season and saw their lead at the top of the table reduced to one point.Boro’s 11-match unbeaten league run was also brought to an end, highlighting just how important it will be for Lankshear to keep fit.Lankshear joined Boro on a five-year contract, and talkSPORT have been told Spurs did NOT include a buy-back option in the deal.Lankshear has limited Premier League experience, featuring just three times previously for SpursGettyThe young centre-forward made just six senior appearances for the north Londoners, scoring his only first-team goal against Galatasaray in the Europa League.Lankshear, who scored 11 league goals for relegated Oxford United on loan last year, has previously been backed by Adrian Durham to lead the line for England at Euro 2028.
