Universal Orlando Resort has spent years saying goodbye to the attractions that helped make its theme parks famous during the 1990s.From beloved rides to entire themed areas, the resort has repeatedly replaced longtime favorites with newer franchises. Now, that same approach has reached another important part of Universal Orlando, where nearly three decades of history are being erased.Several recognizable franchises are disappearing from a major resort location as Universal introduces a completely different lineup. For longtime fans, the latest overhaul means another piece of Universal’s original identity is slipping away.Universal Orlando Continues Moving Away From Its PastUniversal Orlando has never been afraid to retire popular attractions, even when those experiences have developed loyal followings.Over the years, Universal Studios Florida has permanently closed Back to the Future: The Ride, Kongfrontation, Jaws, and Twister…Ride It Out.Each attraction represented a different era of Universal’s history, but all eventually made way for newer entertainment.Universal Islands of Adventure has experienced similar losses, including Poseidon’s Fury in 2023.More recently, Universal Studios Florida permanently closed Animal Actors on Location! following its final performance on November 2, 2026.These decisions reflect Universal’s continued willingness to replace older experiences with modern franchises. However, the latest changes aren’t happening inside either theme park.Instead, Universal has begun overhauling a location millions of visitors pass through before reaching the entrance gates.Credit: UniversalNearly 27 Years of History Are Being ErasedUniversal Orlando Resort is redesigning the naming system in its massive parking complex, removing longtime franchise themes that have helped visitors locate their vehicles for the past 27 years. The parking structures date back to around 1999, when Universal Islands of Adventure opened.Since then, familiar names like Jurassic Park, Jaws, and King Kong have served as recognizable markers throughout the garages.Previously, Universal divided each garage into three themed sections. Rather than assigning a different franchise to each floor, those sections extended across multiple levels. For example, the south garage features Spider-Man near security, The Cat in the Hat in the middle, and E.T. farther away. That arrangement remains unchanged for now. However, the north garage is already losing its historic Jurassic Park identity.Universal has begun replacing the original Jurassic Park signage with illuminated pink Trolls signs on the first level.Additional replacements include row markers, stairwell signs, and escalator signage. The change removes a recognizable piece of Universal Orlando history dating back nearly three decades.Credit: Sarah Larson, Inside the MagicAnother Familiar Franchise Gets a Second ChanceWhile Jurassic Park loses its longtime parking garage presence, another Universal franchise is receiving additional attention.Shrek has enjoyed a renewed presence at Universal Studios Florida following the opening of DreamWorks Land. The character previously starred in Shrek 4-D, which permanently closed in 2022.Now, Shrek is becoming part of the parking garage overhaul.New signs identify the third level of the north garage as Shrek, marking the floor visitors use to reach the theme parks and Universal CityWalk. The updated signage also helps visitors identify their parking level and navigate toward the pedestrian entrance. For Shrek fans, it’s another indication that Universal still considers the franchise important.Five New Names Replace Three Historic FavoritesThe north garage previously featured three sections named Jurassic Park, King Kong, and Jaws.Under Universal’s updated arrangement, each floor will receive its own franchise identity rather than sharing names across multiple levels. The new lineup includes:Level 1: TrollsLevel 2: E.T.Level 3: ShrekLevel 4: MinionsLevel 5: TransformersFour of those names are entirely new to the parking garage system. Each franchise will feature its own color scheme and imagery, making the floors easier to distinguish.Universal will likely need 10 separate franchise identities across both garages, instead of the previous 6.Credit: UniversalOne Original Favorite Isn’t Going AnywhereDespite the removal of several historic names, E.T. will survive the transition.E.T. Adventure remains one of the few original opening-day attractions still operating at Universal Studios Florida. The character has also maintained a presence inside the resort’s parking structures for decades. However, Universal is relocating that identity. The existing E.T. section in the south garage will disappear, leaving the second level of the north garage as its new home. The familiar green signage featuring E.T. will give way to light blue signs depicting Elliott riding his bicycle with E.T. in the basket. It’s a meaningful connection to Universal’s earlier years.Credit: Sarah Larson, Inside the MagicMore Changes Could Be ComingInterestingly, every franchise included in the north garage’s updated lineup has a presence at Universal Studios Florida. That raises the possibility that the south garage could eventually feature franchises as well as Islands of Adventure. If Universal continues that approach, Jurassic Park and King Kong could return as parking garage names elsewhere in the complex.Jaws, however, may disappear from the parking system entirely.Universal has not confirmed the south garage’s final lineup, so those possibilities remain speculation. For now, old signs remain throughout portions of the parking structures as crews continue installing replacements. After approximately 27 years, Universal Orlando’s original Jurassic Park parking garage theming is being dismantled, ending another longstanding connection to the resort’s early history. And while the dinosaurs remain a major presence inside Islands of Adventure, their familiar place in Universal’s parking complex is no longer guaranteed. The post Universal Orlando Strips 27-Year-Old ‘Jurassic Park’ Theming From Historic Location appeared first on Inside the Magic.
