BASHKARANThe Tamil Nadu Document Writers Association here on Friday (November 6) launched a two-day strike against the State government’s proposed privatisation of the infrastructure of the Registration Department.The protests come on the heels of the State government calling for e-tenders from Private Managed Service Provider (MSP) to design, establish, operate and maintain model registration hubs under a 5-year contract. The government had announced that the statutory services will continue to be under the control of the Registrars and Sub-Registrars.The Document Writers Association slammed the move and called it a prelude to a complete privatisation of a critical department. According to the protesting document writers, outsourcing the services to private entities will allow in spurious transactions, whereas the document writers were predominantly locals, who were aware of the property transactions and its authenticity.The protesters called it as a move that would decimate the livelihoods of document writers and their families. The protesters also alleged that this would push up the registration costs for the public. The association demanded that the government instead invest in upgrading the registration offices instead of outsourcing them off to private players.Published - November 06, 2026 07:37 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
