What region of the US has, in your opinion, the worst weather?

For me, I live for days with high temperatures between 60-85* F with 68-82* being especially pleasant. I don't mind rain; it doesn't make or break a day as long as temperatures are still comfortable. Just preferably no severe thunderstorms. As someone who has visited 28 US states and has analyzed the weather across dozens of cities across multiple regions in the U.S, from the Northeast, to the Southeast, to the mountain West, to the Great Lakes, my nominee is the lower Rio Grande Valley. Specifically the Brownsville-Harlingen and McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metropolitan areas. Initially, I assumed that places south of us were reliably mild in the winter. I've seen stretches of 70-80* weather in Orlando and Miami this past winter. Even Houston, which seems to be a boogeyman for people who hate humidity, has seen winter weather swings which appear fairly tepid in comparison to the Rio Grande. I also used to think that the Great Plains, where I live, had uniquely awful weather since we get both the heat of summer and the cold of winter. And while our weather isn't amazing, around half of days we experienced from the start of 2026 until November 1 have had highs between 60-85*. McAllen, Texas has recorded only 49 of those days so far. Only 49 days with high temps within that range of comfortable weather. To put that in perspective, summer across much of Alaska (at least the areas where people live) has been more temperate than winter in the RGV. Yes, somehow the winters don't appear to be that pleasant either. Every single month in McAllen has had at least one day above 90* this year, including January. Not even Phoenix hit 90* in January. Temperatures in McAllen have swung from 30* to 94* that month. And almost everything from March until now was 90* and above. It honestly feels like a cruel joke. https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/mcallen/year-2026#highest_temperatures With that being said, I'm sure you all have different ideas as to what constitutes unpleasant weather. I'd love to know your thoughts! And if anyone lives down in this region of Texas, I deeply apologize on your behalf. If you'd like to make a case for another part of the US having worse weather, I would love to hear your argument. This is just my soapbox submitted by /u/Hopeful_Wallaby3755 [link] [comments]
