The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) will release in theaters in less than a week. Although early social media reactions are now up following the film’s premiere, there’s an embargo in place until May 19 for official reviews, meaning spoilers have yet to start flooding YouTube.Credit: LucasfilmRelated: Lucasfilm Confirms New ‘Star Wars’ Era Launching This Year, Finally Leaves Sequel Trilogy BehindAs such, fans continue to speculate as to which Star Wars characters might appear in the film. We know that it isn’t expected to bring back any recurring characters from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2019), which means we won’t be seeing the likes of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), and, of course, Cara Dune and Greef Karga – with Gina Carano having been fired by Disney in 2021 and Carl Weathers having sadly passed away in 2024.Credit: LucasfilmWho’s in The Mandalorian & Grogu? The only characters on the film’s roster in addition to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu are Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver), Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018) who briefly appeared in The Mandalorian Season 3, the Kyuzo bounty hunter Embo from the animated series The Clone Wars (2008–2020), Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White), who first appeared as a baby in the 2008 Clone Wars film, and the Hutt Twins, who were in The Book of Boba Fett. Although it depends on what Weaver means by “a long time.”As for the prequel trilogy, most characters from those films are long dead and would also have little to do with those that populate the Mando-Verse timeline. So, Weaver may very well be talking about Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa, whether it’s one, two, or all three of them. In fact, the actor already previously hinted that Leia could appear in the film, telling Empire Magazine (via SFFGazette.com) in March that her character Colonel Ward and the Princess “go way back” in Star Wars canon.Credit: LucasfilmSeeing Luke, Han, and Leia appear would make a lot of sense given the fact that Disney and Lucasfilm appear to be reintegrating the iconic trio into the franchise. In April, it was revealed that all three characters would appear within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, which suggests that Disney is leaning into the franchise’s three most recognizable heroes.Seeing them de-aged on the big screen doesn’t seem out of the question, either. Not only does The Mandalorian & Grogu take place just a few years after the original trilogy, but we’ve already seen a de-aged Leia in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), where she was played by Ingvild Deila with Carrie Fisher’s likeness superimposed onto her face.Credit: LucasfilmThe character underwent a similar treatment in a flashback sequence in The Rise of Skywalker along with Luke Skywalker. And speaking of Luke, we all remember his appearances in The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett (2021), which also involved de-aging Mark Hamill. So far, Han Solo is the only one out of the three who has yet to undergo a digital makeover – although Harrison Ford himself did in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).Interestingly, Din Djarin and Grogu are also set to appear inside the Galaxy’s Edge attraction Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run on May 22 to coincide with the release of the film.Credit: LucasfilmYoda Could Also AppearIf we don’t see Luke, Han, and Leia, though, we might see Yoda show up as a Force Ghost.Recently, the film’s director Jon Favreau revealed how Yoda and Grogu might be connected, telling GamesRadar+, “He’s [Grogu] not on the typical Jedi path of a youngling, but he has trained with some of the best Jedi teachers that there are,” adding, “We know for sure he’s studied with Luke Skywalker. There’s implications that he may have crossed paths with Yoda, because he does recognize the name, is what we imply. And he also was there at the Jedi Temple before Order 66.”With all that said, Weaver may simply be referring to the character Rotta the Hutt, who was last seen on the big screen as a baby in the 2008 animated film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.Credit: LucasfilmThe Mandalorian & Grogu“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy,” the film’s official synopsis for The Mandalorian & Grogu on StarWars.com reads. “As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”The Mandalorian & Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson. The film releases in theaters on May 22.Are you excited about The Mandalorian & Grogu?
