The organization said the actions were intended to intimidate the wider public and discourage protest activity.By Vered Weiss, World Israel NewsThe Iranian regime used what rights monitors described as psychological tactics against the family of executed protester Mohammad Abbasi, who was put to death Wednesday at Qezel Hesar prison in Karaj after relatives were summoned for what they believed would be a final visit. The Iran Human Rights Monitor group said Abbasi’s family was ordered to come to the prison to see the 55-year-old one last time before his execution. After arriving and preparing to say goodbye, the family was sent home and later informed by phone that Abbasi had already been executed.Iran HRM condemned the handling of the execution and accused Iranian authorities of deliberately using psychological pressure against relatives of detainees and protesters.“The prevention of a final visit is not only psychological torture of the family, but also an explicit violation of the Executive Regulations of the Prisons Organization and international standards for prisoners’ rights, which emphasize the right to a farewell before the execution of a death sentence,” Iran HRM said in a statement. The organization said the actions were intended to intimidate the wider public and discourage protest activity.“The objective of these legal violations goes beyond punishing an individual; it aims to psychologically paralyze society and create a ‘paralyzing shock’ among protesters to suppress the public will for seeking justice,” the group added.Abbasi had been accused of attacking a lieutenant in Iran’s security forces during a demonstration.Authorities also alleged that he participated in what they described as a “Zionist coup” aimed at overthrowing the regime. The report said Abbasi appeared on Iranian state television confessing to the accusations.Iran HRM stated that many demonstrators detained during protests were compelled to provide confessions under torture and that such statements were often false.Abbasi’s daughter, Fatemeh Abbasi, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after participating in protests alongside her father. The case drew renewed attention to the treatment of detainees and protesters inside Iran’s prison system following anti-government demonstrations. The post Rights group denounces ‘psychological torture’ on families of executed protester appeared first on World Israel News.
