A new Labour government would ensure that no new licences would be issued for facilities wanting to house dangerous animals, Prime Minister Robert Abela has just promised.This new proposal, announced moments ago, clearly aims to address the long-standing concern that many people have with Malta’s zoos, something which Abela explained had already started being addressed through the introduction of the first Keeping of Animals in Zoos Regulations.Beyond banning the issuing of new licences for such facilities, Abela went on to say, the newly proposed legal amendments would also prohibit the replacement of a deceased dangerous animal with another one… presumably with the hopes of eventually phasing out such facilities.What do you make of this proposal?•
