As part of the over 45 minute longConference Spring 2026 presentation, Bandai Namco and Sunrise released the Gundam 50th Anniversary Project “A Boy with Gundam” anime prologue movie. This is almost a six minute long tribute to people’s love the of the series, complete with a cameo from Amuro Ray from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. It’s online both at the English and Japanese accounts for the series, the the former automatically having English subtitles for the song. Note that this doesn’t mean the characters and situations we see in “A Boy with Gundam” could end up being stars in an anime or featured in what might actually be the 50th Anniversary Project. Rather, this is part of the lead-up celebration. The actual anniversary will happen in 2029, and for now Bandai Namco is preparing projects to lead up to the major reveal. As for this video, it’s set in the real world. We see a number of people gathering to watch the Moving Gundam. That’s an exhibit that has appeared in Japan and involves a life-size recreation of a unit that can actually move. One man is there, seeing children marveling at the creation. We then see flashbacks of how the original Mobile Suit Gundam inspired that kind of awe in him and remained a recurring love throughout his and his family’s life. We see references to Amuro Ray and other pilots and series at the end.
