I've been in this local community group for a few years, mostly it's lost dogs and garage sale announcements. But every few months something special comes along. Yesterday someone posted asking if anyone had a car they weren't using that they'd be willing to "gift or donate" to a family in need. Fine, people fall on hard times, no judgment there. Then the requirements started. Must be automatic transmission because she doesn't drive stick. Under 100k miles "preferably." No older than 2015 because anything older "costs too much to maintain." Sedan or SUV only, no trucks or hatchbacks because of "lifestyle needs." Should have working AC because she has a health condition. Clean title obviously. And if possible, under a certain color range because her daughter has sensory issues with certain colors and the inside of the car matters too so "neutral interior would be ideal." Someone in the comments very gently pointed out that these were quite specific requirements for a free car. She responded that she wasn't "trying to be difficult" she just knew what her family needed and didn't want to waste anyone's time with a car that wouldn't work for them. Someone else offered a 2013 Honda that runs great but is manual. She said thanks but no thanks. A third person offered a 2016 Hyundai but it was red. She said she'd have to think about it because of the sensory issue. It's been 24 hours and she has not accepted any of the three cars that were offered to her for free. submitted by /u/Rocinante_Hex [link] [comments]
