A jury has found 25-year-old Carl Caruana from Wied il-Għajn not guilty of the attempted murder of Christian Muscat, known as “in-Nemusa”, following a 2019 shooting incident in Marsaskala.According to a report by TVM News, jurors acquitted Caruana of attempted homicide by eight votes to one after around four hours of deliberation. However, he was found guilty of attempted grievous injuries as well as firearm-related offences, including possession of a firearm and ammunition without a police licence and carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime. The case stemmed from an argument on Facebook between Caruana and Muscat which later escalated into a confrontation in Triq il-Qaliet, Marsaskala, on 29th November 2019.During the trial, Muscat testified that he approached Caruana’s vehicle carrying a taser gun and a knife, while also admitting to sending threats during the online dispute. The prosecution argued that five shots were fired in a public street and noted the firearm allegedly used in the incident was never recovered. What do you make of the jury’s verdict?•
