[Live Thread] Eurovision Song Contest 2026 Grand Final @ 21:00 CEST

Wait 5 sec.

Tonight, our JJourney ends as a new Eurovision Wien-ner, our 70th, is crowned. Plus, we finally get to find out where we're taking the festivities next year! Still, it's not all about the results. No matter how your favourites do tonight (and I hope they do wonderfully), the important thing is that you were there to support them by enjoying their performance and giving them some love. Remember as tensions run high tonight that you can enjoy the songs you like without having to tear down the ones that others like in the process. With that disclaimer, let's get on with the show! WATCH LIVE ON YOUTUBE 📺 If the official YouTube stream is geoblocked for you, we recommend trying one of the national broadcaster's streams. SVT Play, in particular, seems to work quite well for many of our members not located in Europe, so try them if you get an error message from YouTube. At the time of writing, the official YouTube livestream is blocked in the following 5 countries: Australia, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, and the UK. Opening Acts The opening opening act is like the lovechild of the opening acts from the semis. It's a short film like in Semifinal 1 (though this time without the "bury your gays" trope), and it features a paper boat like in Semifinal 2 (though this time without the chaos). We start by reminiscing on ESC 2025 and JJ's win in Basel, Switzerland, before it's revealed that the paper boat from his performance survived! It's a bit homesick, though, so over the rivers and through the woods to Wiener Stadthalle we go. The boat makes it just in time, as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is warming up the expectant Eurovision crowd with a rousing rendition of "The Queen of the Night". The song is from Mozart's last opera, Die Zauberflöte... or The Magic Flute in English. You might expect the orchestra's spell to summon Matt Blxck, but it actually makes JJ appear on stage to perform his new single "Unknown"! To be clear, we do know the title of the new single. It's not unknown. Or, well, it... wait a minute. I have the strangest sense of déjà vu that I'm about to make a joke I've made before. And haven't we heard this song before? On Thursday? Well, it's a nice song, in any case, so I guess we get to enjoy it twice. And this time blended with "The Queen of the Night". It's "The Queen of the Unknown" now! The high note hit (don't worry, there will be many more of them throughout the night), we move swiftly along to the flag parade, a beloved yearly tradition where tonight's finalists are announced in their running order. This year, the artists will walk the runway between the stage and the green room, accompanied by JJ reprising "Wasted Love". Sadly, no bonus style points will be awarded this evening for their runway walks. We have no time to mourn this fact, though, because just as hometown hero COSMÓ and his wild dancers make their way to the green room, JJ elevates his performance for the final chorus. And that's not a metaphor! A platform rises out of the stage so that he can take those high notes literally. Ad Break Entertainment For those of us watching on streams/broadcasters without ads, we get some additional segments of content. The first ad break of the night will see the third part of the pre-recorded Professor Eurovision video series, which- wait, where are you going?! Why are you running away? H is for hear me out! Ahem, well, for those of us not skipping class, this lesson from Prof. Swarovski is all about the various metrics for success at the contest, whether that be at the contest itself or outside of it with concerts, radio play, album sales, or streams. Surely that can't fall as flat as part two did... right? In the second ad break, Michael and Victoria will tell us all about the latest news from Eurovision's spin-offs. In October, we'll be heading to Malta for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026, despite France's win with "Ce Monde" by Lou Deleuze in the 2025 edition. And in November, it'll be time for the inaugural edition of Eurovision Asia in Bangkok, Thailand. Finally, the third ad break showcases the events our host city has put on, plus the people who made those events happen in the first place! In a pre-recorded video, we venerate Vienna, the volunteers, and the vivacious vibrancy of the Turquoise Carpet opening ceremony. Interval Acts After all the acts have performed, it's time to celebrate, especially because somebody is turning 70 this year! Or, well, 71, but I guess we've just decided to pretend the one cancelled edition doesn't exist. Anyway, here to sing some best wishes to the birthday contest are Max Mutzke (Germany 2004), Ruslana (Ukraine 2004), Lordi (Finland 2006), Verka Serduchka (Ukraine 2007), Alexander Rybak (Norway 2009 & 2018), Kristian Kostov (Bulgaria 2017), Erika Vikman (Finland last year), and Miriana Conte (Malta last year). They will be singing a mash-up of past hits "Nel blu, dipinto di blu" by Domenico Modugno (Italy 1958), "Congratulations" by Cliff Richard (United Kingdom 1968), "All Kinds of Everything" by Dana (Ireland 1970), "Waterloo" by ABBA (Sweden 1974), "Save Your Kisses for Me" by Brotherhood of Man (United Kingdom 1976), "Dschinghis Khan" by Dschinghis Khan (Germany 1979), "Papa Pingouin" by Sophie & Magaly (Luxembourg 1980), "Ne partez pas sans moi" by Céline Dion (Switzerland 1988), "Euphoria" by Loreen (Sweden 2012), "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence (Netherlands 2019), "Cha Cha Cha" by Käärijä (Finland 2023), "Rim Tim Tagi Dim" by Baby Lasagna (Croatia 2024), "Mon amour" by Slimane (France 2024), and "Espresso Macchiato" by Tommy Cash (Estonia last year). That was a lot of songs already, but we're swinging right along to the next electric act. Which is, fittingly enough, Austrian electro-swing artist Parov Stelar! As you may have been able to figure out already, electro-swing combines elements of big band swing music with electronic backing beats. It's a little bit jazz, a little bit clubby, and a whole lot of danceable! Speaking of electro-swing and a miss, you lucky ducks with commercials will get one last ad break for the night. The rest of us are trapped stuck in class for the final part of the Professor Eurovision video series, in which Prof. Swarovski talks us through the many different voting sequences of Eurovisions past. Let's hope the final exam isn't too tough! Lastly, we all come back to close the voting lines, then Billy Joel shows up on the video monitor to talk about his song "Vienna". Get it? Because we're in Vienna? Anyway, we then get treated to a rendition of the song, though not by Billy, but by César Sampson (Austria 2018). César sung us a song tonight and got us feelin' all right, so now's a good time to remind everybody that this is the 70th edition again. Did you know this was the 70th edition of the contest? We honour this fact with a montage of all the past winners, set to previous winner before JJ, "Rise Like a Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst (Austria 2014). It's genuinely touching, even for my cynicism-hardened heart. With hopes that the contest makes it another 70 years in our hearts, it's finally on to the voting! Official Eurovision Channels You can follow what's going on outside of our Reddit community by checking out Eurovision's official social channels below. Instagram | TikTok | YouTube | Bluesky | Facebook | Eurovision.com Voting If you are watching your local broadcaster (and your country is performing in this semi), instructions will be provided on screen for how you can cast votes. Remember that you cannot vote for your own country! If you are not watching your local broadcaster's stream, you can access detailed voting information on Eurovision's dedicated voting website. Even countries that are not participating in Eurovision this year are able to vote. Find out more about this Rest of the World (RotW) voting process at the link in the previous paragraph. 🔊 Moderation This is our busiest week of the year, so we are currently implementing some changes to our moderation standards. These are not rule changes, but they focus discussion into fewer posts to ensure us mods are able to keep an eye on things more easily, plus enjoy the shows ourselves. Please be patient with us, but most importantly have fun and be nice to others. FAQ: Where is the live chat? If you're used to other social media platforms, it might take some getting used to that Reddit doesn't really have a live chat function at present. If this is something you're struggling with, we recommend using https://reddit-stream.com/ to auto-refresh the thread and make it a bit more like the live chat experience on other platforms. submitted by /u/LucasScooter to r/eurovision [link] [comments]
