I worked for a church for years, and the audacity of people never ceased to amaze me. They wanted rent paid, utilities, cell phones, etc paid for in full. My go-to response? “Have you spoken with your church family about this?” That was sure to get to them. When they admitted that they don’t go to church, I’d act bewildered and responded; “You don’t even attend church, but you want us to pay for your responsibilities‽” That would usually get me slandered pretty good, but at least they’d hang up.
