It’s the concluding afternoon of York’s season-opening Dante Festival on Friday afternoon and the Group 2 Boodles Yorkshire Cup Stakes will take centre stage on the Knavesmire at 4.05pm.There’s a strong supporting card at York, with racing from 1.45-5.15 on Friday, and below Enda McElhinney has picked out his three leading fancies on the card.Friday’s York tips2.20 – Pacific Mission @ 7/22.55 – Tony Montana @ 11/24.05 – Rahiebb @ 3/12.20 – Pacific Mission @ 7/2Listed fare in race two on the card via The Michael Seely Memorial Fillies’ Stakes over a mile. The early market showed Synchronicity as favourite for Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark, but she might be vulnerable. The Night Of Thunder filly made a positive impression when scoring at Newbury (7f, good) last month on debut beating main market rival Song Of The Clouds by two-lengths.The second, fourth and fifth have all won their next starts and this filly has scope for plenty of progress but this is far from straightforward.Botagoz for Roger Varian and Fashion People for John & Thady Gosden are both dual winners in as many starts and William Haggas’ Lilt is a once-raced winner. There are plenty with potential, but perhaps none with the experience of PACIFIC MISSION for Andrew Balding and Colin Keane in the Juddmonte silks.A Kempton polytrack winner over 7f on second start last year at two, she has been second since in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar.Those are standout efforts and with the stable in good form, the Lope De Vega filly is fancied for a winning comeback.2.55 – Tony Montana @ 11/2Just over a mile-and-a-quarter on the Knavesmire is the trip for the Support Macmillan Charity Raceday On 13 June Handicap and last year’s second TONY MONTANA looks well placed for another challenge. The gelded son of Kingman was denied a head last year when trained by Michael Bell. That was his second run of the campaign after a good silver medal at Goodwood in early May.This time he’s with Kevin Philippart De Foy and the six-year-old began his time with this yard with a promising effort in the Class 2 Spring Cup at Newbury (1m, good) last month. He was beaten three-lengths, finishing sixth of 24 runners and perhaps just finding that test too sharp. All his wins have come over this sort of trip. He’s been eased 1lb in the ratings, runs off the same mark as last year and this test looks optimal with quickening ground in his favour too.4.05 – Rahiebb @ 3/1Last season’s King Edward VII winner Amiloc looks the one to beat for Ralph Beckett in the Yorkshire Cup and his subsequent runner-up finish behind Al Riffa in the Irish St Leger showcase his stamina before a good fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf behind Ethical Diamond. His fellow four-year-old RAHIEBB is a threat for Roger Varian. The Frankel colt was a debut winner at Newcastle last March over a mile on the Tapeta and ran a series of big races on turf without tasting success in 2025.He was second here over 1m4f on handicap debut last season and was third in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and second in the St Leger at Doncaster – beaten a neck – when confronted with this sort of trip as a 3YO.There could be more to come and this track ought to suit him well.Get up to £35 matched if your first bet losesVisit talkSPORT BET for all the latest horse racing betting odds*all odds correct at time of writing and subject to change*18+ New Customers.
