Residents in Naxxar raised safety concerns on Thursday evening after foundations and compacted earth beneath a major construction site reportedly shifted, sparking fears that parts of the development could collapse.Times of Malta reported that police were called to the site at the corner of Triq il-Milizzja and Triq is-Seneskalk as investigations began into the incident.A photo of the area shows sections of the foundations appearing to give way, with nearby residents reporting loud noises and continued landslides beneath the development. The site is being developed by contractor Anton Camilleri, known as Tal Franċiż, and forms part of a large scale project on a former quarry site which is set to include dozens of apartments and garages.Speaking to Times of Malta, Camilleri insisted there was “absolutely no danger”, saying the site is fully detached and that any collapse would fall into the excavation area itself rather than affect nearby residents. He explained that excavation works were underway and claimed the foundation “defaulted” after the area was not refilled in time.Times of Malta also reported that a stop work order has since been issued on the development, while the Occupational Health and Safety Authority confirmed it is investigating alongside other authorities.Photo Credit: Net News•
