The 29th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is set to take place this June, and the Ugandan film industry has much to celebrate. The official selection list reveals a diverse and powerful lineup of Ugandan productions across nearly every major category, signaling a vibrant era for the country’s storytellers.In a significant nod to the quality of Ugandan filmmaking, the feature film “Small Gods,” directed by Asher Rosen and produced by Jack Pollington, has been selected as the festival’s Opening Film. This prestigious slot places Ugandan cinema at the very heart of the festival’s launch, with the film also competing in the Feature Fiction category.Joining “Small Gods” in the Feature Fiction competition is “Longing to Belong,” a film directed and produced by the renowned Omumbejja Mariam Ndagire Kizito.Uganda’s representation also extends to the TV series category, with the Pearl Magic Prime drama series “Loving Beyond,” directed by Marvin Rain Ssentongo and produced by Jerry Sessanga, successfully making the official selection.Fundraising campaign launched to repatriate Ugandan actress Sally Elizabeth BwamimpekeUganda is making a strong impression in the world of animation.
