Tyler Adams helped AFC Bournemouth reached European Football for the first time in the club’s 127-year history on Tuesday night. Adams started and played the full 90 minutes in the Cherries’ 1-1 home draw with Manchester City, effectively clinching the league title for Arsenal in the process. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder went the distance for the first time since March 3, delivering one of his more impactful performances of the season.Junior Kroupi opened the scoring for Bournemouth in the first half with a stellar right-footed strike but the Cherries’ valiant work was undone in second-half stoppage time. Erling Haaland’s late equalizer earned the Citizens a share of the spoils at the Vitality Stadium and put a dent in what would’ve been another Bournemouth home win over a title challenger.Adams completed 87% of his passes, won five duels, made four tackles and three clearances in midfield. The veteran was all over the field, helping frustrate Man City’s midfielders for most of the match. Should Aston Villa win the UEFA Europa League Final on Wednesday, Bournemouth could qualify for the UEFA Champions League in Sunday’s league finale. However, a loss for Villains paired with a defeat for the Cherries at Nottingham Forest could open the door for Brighton & Hove Albion to leapfrog Bournemouth into sixth place. Regardless, Bournemouth will be playing European Football next season, giving Adams the chance to play in a top competition once again next fall. Elsewhere, Marlon Fossey and Standard Liege defeated Bryan Reynolds and Westerlo on Tuesday, moving them one step closer to a Conference League berth for next season. Westerlo’s loss ended their chances of reaching the European tournament.
