The World Health Organization has said it could take up to nine months before a vaccine against the current Bundibugyo strain of Ebola is ready.Speaking on Wednesday, WHO advisor Dr Vasee Moorthy explained that two potential vaccines are currently being developed, but neither has yet gone through clinical trials.WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there have now been around 600 suspected Ebola cases and 139 suspected deaths linked to the outbreak, although those numbers are expected to rise as more cases are investigated. So far, 51 cases have been confirmed in Democratic Republic of the Congo and two in neighbouring Uganda.Earlier this week, the WHO declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, but clarified that it does not currently meet the criteria for a pandemic emergency.Tedros said the organisation currently assesses the risk as high nationally and regionally, but low globally. What do you make of the WHO’s latest warning?•
