Peel Regional Police (PRP) have arrested 92 people and laid nearly 1,400 charges in a sweeping crackdown on street racing, stunt driving and high‑risk driving across the region. The annual GTA‑wide initiative — known as Project ERASE (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) — ran through May and June, targeting hotspot locations in Peel Region where illegal racing and car rallies have surged in recent years.Officers conducted 500 vehicle investigations, seized nearly 100 vehicles, and laid 107 stunt‑driving charges along with 52 unnecessary‑noise offences, part of a broader push to curb dangerous driving behaviours that police say continue to put lives at risk.Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said the results reflect the scale of the problem — and the coordinated effort required to tackle it.“Street racing does not stop at municipal boundaries — and neither do we,” Andrews said through a news release. “For those engaging in stunt driving and aggressive driving behaviours, consider this your notice: we will catch you. No moment of adrenaline or brief thrill is worth the lifelong impacts those careless decisions have on families.”Project ERASE is delivered in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Toronto Police Service (TPS), York Regional Police (YRP), Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), and Hamilton Police Service (HPS), forming a joint forces operation that blankets the GTA during peak racing months.Peel police say enforcement will continue through the summer and into the fall, with additional road‑safety initiatives planned as officers respond to ongoing complaints about late‑night racing, high‑speed convoys, and disruptive car meets.
