Singer Kabaya (born Joseph Bwogi) has dismissed claims by the Uganda Police that he was arrested during an operation targeting alleged substance abuse, insisting his arrest and assault were politically motivated. This comes after the former Firebase Crew singer and outspoken supporter of Bobi Wine alleged that security operatives arrested and brutally assaulted him, leaving him with four missing teeth. He was later released on police bond before returning home to reunite with his family and seek medical treatment.Addressing the allegations, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed that Kabaya had indeed been arrested during a police operation.According to Kawala, the singer was apprehended over alleged substance abuse and later released on police bond. She added that if Kabaya believes he was assaulted by police officers, he should formally lodge a complaint to enable investigations.Singer Kabaya was arrested during our operations over alleged substance use and was later granted police bond. If he claims that he was assaulted by police, he should present his concerns, and investigations will be initiated. However, Kabaya has strongly refuted the police account, maintaining that he was neither involved in substance abuse nor arrested during a crackdown. The singer claims security operatives intercepted him outside his home after blocking his path with a police patrol vehicle. He alleges the officers identified him as “a friend to Bobi Wine” before subjecting him to a severe beating that resulted in the loss of four teeth.Kabaya loses four teeth following alleged abduction and assaultI know many Ugandans have been wondering why I was arrested and beaten until I lost four teeth. Some people think it was because of substance abuse, but that is not true. There is no such charge against me. It was all political. These security operatives came to my home, blocked my way with a police patrol, and when I got out, they said, ‘This is Kabaya, a friend to Bobi Wine,’ before immediately beating me.Kabaya says his focus is now on seeking justice, calling for the officers he accuses of assaulting him to be held accountable.I want justice from the officers who beat and injured me. I want them to be charged. I have no charge against me, and there is nothing involving substance abuse. I also thank King Saha for making a loud plea for my release.Singer Kabaya was arrested during our operations over alleged substance use and was later granted police bond.
