‘Keep the energy coming’: MW4 devs swiftly fix ugly visual bug after first public gameplay footage went viral

Wait 5 sec.

A viral Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gameplay video that showed a pretty nasty visual bug has garnered a swift response from developer Infinity Ward. MW4’s Kill Block mode is available to play at Fanatics Fest in New York City this weekend, and some of the first public footage of the game contained a pretty awful muzzle flash bug that basically felt like being flashbanged with every shot from a DMR gun. Infinity Ward later posted that it was a bug, and followed up this morning by revealing it has been fixed, with video footage to back it up. “Thanks for the feedback from yesterday’s Kill Block streams,” the studio said today. “We just rolled out a fix for the bugged suppressor that was using the wrong muzzle flash VFX. Additionally, we have reduced muzzle smoke opacity for all weapons for this weekend’s preview sessions. A clear sight picture is critical to the gameplay experience. Keep the energy coming, we’re engaged.” I attended the event yesterday myself and played MW4 it for a second time after visiting Infinity Ward’s studio in May, and enjoyed it yet again. But a bulk of the talk on social media has been negatively impacted by the clip, which has not been largely indicative of my own experience. One of the main complaints about Infinity Ward’s previous games, Modern Warfare 2019 and Modern Warfare II (Sledgehammer Games made Modern Warfare III), is that it was difficult to see the enemy you’re firing at sometimes with recoil, muzzle flash, and barrel smoke fogging things up. This has still occasionally been the case in MW4 from my approximately two hours of total gameplay (depending on the gun build in-hand), but the studio says it’s aware and has already made some changes. MW4 launches for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S later this year on Oct. 23.0The post ‘Keep the energy coming’: MW4 devs swiftly fix ugly visual bug after first public gameplay footage went viral appeared first on Destructoid.
