Square Enix announced it canceled its promised worldwide release of the Android and iOS adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV known as FFXIV Mobile and will shut down the currently running Chinese Edition of the MMORPG. Newcomers can’t register, existing players can’t spend any more in-game money, and the company told people to prepare for the September 30, 2026 shutdown. This comes after its launch in the region in June 2025. Two reasons were offered to explain why we won’t see FFXIV Mobile appear worldwide and the Chinese version will close. It mentioned “adjustments in business operations and changes in the market environment.” It didn’t specify what these adjustments and changes are, however. It only described the end of the game and arrangement with Tencent, its partner in this MMORPG, as “amicable.” There’s no roadmap for possible content additions in the shutdown notice for this Android and iOS version of Final Fantasy XIV. The last schedule only went over the shutdown process. Almost everything ends on September 30, 2026, at which point account and character data will be deleted. However, as part of the tidying up and closure process, people who did play and participate will be able to contact customer support and access the forums until October 15, 2026. As a refresher, here’s the reveal trailer for the adaptation from November 2024. The Chinese Edition of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is available on Android and iOS devices until September 30, 2026, and FFXIV is on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC now and will be on the Switch 2 starting in August 2026.
