With temperatures expected to reach 40°C to 41°C over the coming days, the Health Authorities are urging the public to take extra precautions to stay safe during the heatwave.As part of Malta’s Heat Health Action Plan, cooling centres in various localities are being activated to support highly vulnerable people who may not have access to adequate cooling at home. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Health officials are reminding people to stay hydrated, avoid going outdoors between 11am and 4pm, wear light clothing, seek shade and reduce strenuous physical activity during the hottest hours of the day.The public is also being urged to check in on elderly relatives, neighbours and friends, particularly those living alone, as well as babies, young children and people with chronic health conditions, who are among those most at risk during extreme heat.Authorities warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion is advised to seek medical advice by calling 2123 1231, while heatstroke is a medical emergency and requires an immediate call to 112.They also reminded the public never to leave children, elderly people or animals inside parked vehicles, even for a short time.Malta remains under a red heat warning, with the scorching temperatures expected to persist into next week.•
