The closure of Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has lasted much longer than Walt Disney World Resort initially forecasted. As of July 13, the outdoor extension of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Tiki Bar remains blocked off to Central Florida Disney Park guests.Extended Closure of the Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village ResortCredit: DisneyTrader Sam’s Tiki Terrace originally closed for refurbishment back in April. The news came amid an onslaught of other refreshes and maintenance projects at the Deluxe Disney Resort hotel, including the transformation of an automatic doorway into a stationary glass window at the new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Island Tower building, the rerouting of several roadways in the Magic Kingdom Resort area, and the refurbishment of the BouTiki merchandise location in the Great Ceremonial House. At the time, Walt Disney World Resort said that Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace would reopen in “late June 2026.” However, nearly halfway into July, the dining location has yet to reopen, and Disney has not provided an updated reopening timeline.Credit: DisneyWalt Disney World Resort has removed the “mid-April to late June” language from its official webpage for Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. Now, the website states that the dining location is “currently closed for refurbishment” and encourages guests to “check back” for updates on when it may reopen.Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto–the iconic tiki bar inside Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort–remains open. Over the last month, Walt Disney World Resort has restricted bus and boat transportation to the Disney Resort hotels from Disney Springs to hotel guests only.Days after enacting that change, Disney announced that it would not bring back the traditional life-size Gingerbread House for the 2026 holiday season at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, with the subtext that it was trying to reduce foot traffic at the Deluxe Disney Resort hotel. For the first time, Walt Disney World Resort also officially stated that holiday decorations were intended for guests staying at each specific hotel, not for visitors.Credit: Jess Colopy, Inside the MagicFor now, Monorail, bus, boat, and Disney Skyliner transportation to the four theme parks is not restricted to guests staying on property. However, security has tightened the regulations on guests walking through Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on their way to Magic Kingdom Park from the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC).Has the Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace closure impacted your stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?
