Mandaloun’s Book Value Becomes Sire’s First Stakes Winner in Hoover at Belterra

Wait 5 sec.

Becoming his sire's first black-type winner, and keeping his record perfect in the process, Book Value (Mandaloun) strode home confidently to win the Hoover Stakes at Belterra Park.Coming into this contest, the 1-2 betting favorite was last seen June 16 at Thistledown where he dominated fellow Ohio-breds by 3 3/4 lengths to break his maiden at first asking. The public preferred his victory over Battle Ready (Army Mule) to his outside–also coming in off a dominating victory against state-bred maidens at Thistledown–and they went off as the top pair in the wagering.Breaking well with good early foot, Book Value sped out to the front to post an uncontested lead through :22.54 and four furlongs in :46.92 coming off the bend. Under steady handling, he extended his advantage over Skedazzle (Mobil) as that one tried valiantly to cut into the margin. The winner reported in by 5 1/2 lengths as Battle Ready overtook Skedazzle in the lane to claim second. The victor is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner and GI La Brea Stakes-placed Livingmybestlife, whose first to the races is a juvenile Uncle Mo colt named Unreined. Book Value is the second stakes horse for Wall Street Lady, and the first for freshman sire Mandaloun. He has a yearling half-sister by Yaupon in the wings. This is the female line of third dam Chosen Lady, who produced the branch that yielded Wall Street Lady and another that claims GISW Well Chosen (Deputy Minister), herself mother of MGISW Telling (A.P. Indy).
